ACTIVE ACCESS - EU-project for an environmentally friendly local mobility in cities

Active Access aims to increase the use of cycling and walking through communication measures. It focuses on short everyday trips in local areas, in order to benefit people's health, and the health of the local economy. It aims to transfer longer car trips to shorter walking and cycling trips by changing people's mental maps of their local neighbourhoods so that they realise what is available on their doorstep, rather than in the edge of town retail park.

Active Access is an EU funded project within the Intelligent Energy Europe programme. 14 towns in 11 countries work together with five research institutes. Difu supports the municipal practice partners concerning their action plans, their networking with other players in the field of transport, mobility, and training, with the dissemination of good practices, and through the dissemination of project results. The Project started in August 2009 and finishes in July 2012.

Final training event in June 2012, Cities for Mobility global meeting in July 2012

The project invites for the final training event on the 7./8. June 2012 in Budapest (participation for free). Training material will be presented for those municipalities, energy agencies and NGOs that aim to change the "mental maps" of local stakeholders, decision makers, planners and consumers towards short distance mobility.
The flyer is available here (pdf, 468 kB).

Active Access practice partner in Germany is Stuttgart with its international initiative Cities for Mobility, which invites for a global meeting of towns on 1st through 4th July 2012: "The Safe Streets Challenge" (www.cities-for-mobility.net).
