The New EU-Project "PRESTO" Promotes Cycling in European Cities
PRESTO – "Promoting Cycling for Everyone as a Daily Transport Mode" is a project of the EU's Intelligent Energy Europe (IEE) Programme. It aims to offer a set of tools for technicians to create cycle friendly urban environments, to implement sound cycling plans and to start up targeted promotion campaigns. Besides the local activities in the five PRESTO cities are meant for the people, to encourage the use of bicycles also among elderly or those who live in very hilly areas.

Ireland: National Cycle Policy shall quintuple cycling
Irish minister of transport Noel Dempsey launches Ireland's First National Cycle Policy Framework with 109 measures for promote cycling. By 2020 160,000 people shall use their bike on their way to work.

Für bis zu elf Städte gibt es 47 Millionen Pfund (62 Mio. Euro) an Fördermitteln. / Cities and towns keen to revolutionise cycling in their areas have been invited by Phillip Darnton, Chairman of Cycling England to come forward with bids for a share of the £47m funding for the new Demonstration Areas, which forms part of the record £140m funding for cycling announced by Transport Secretary Ruth Kelly in January.
