Cycle track with solar panels

During the first year of "SolaRoad" - a test route in the Netherlands - the cycle track produces more energy than expected

© SolaRoad

It had been expected to get more than 70 kWh per square meter per year, but during the first six month (in winter) the path produced more than 3,000 kWh.

Now, for the first year stock had been taken: it had been 9,800 kWh produced, which equals the average annual energy consumption of three housholds.

The pilot phase will last three years with tests and measures. During the first year, 300,000 bicycles and small mopeds used the test path without problems. The translucence could be optimized, and in 2016 there will be a new 20m long test path with re-engineered material in Krommenie.
