Special programme "Town and Country" to be expanded
On 24 June 2021, the Bundestag passed the amendment to the Climate Protection Act. This also includes an 8 billion emergency programme, one billion of which will flow into transport. Among other things, the special programme "Town and Country" will be expanded by 301.5 million euros for safe cycling infrastructure as well as bicycle parking (with charging stations) at public transport interfaces.
The following climate measures for cycling will be provided with further funding:
- Cycling infrastructure will be further expanded (2022: EUR 301.5 million): the special programme "Town and Country" will be expanded to include the focal points of upgrading and refurbishing cycling infrastructure as well as bicycle/pedelec parking (with charging stations) at public transport interfaces.
- Emphasis will also be placed on innovative cycling projects for safe cycling cities (2022: EUR 15.5 million; 2023: EUR 25 million; 2024: EUR 6 million; 2025: EUR 4 million): Model projects are to be used to advance the development of cycling and strengthen it, especially in cities.
